You-kalele Kids Zambales is a volunteer-based, non-profit ukulele music group in San Felipe Zambales which aims to help in personality development of member-participants, through regular ukulele tutorial lessons by volunteer teachers and by invitational performances to some events within our municipality. We let the kids experience how it feels to perform for a variety of audience thus developing their self-confidence thru constant interaction with people. In our own little way, we inspire and encourage the kids to dream and persevere to achieve their dreams.
Why name it You-kalele Kids Zambales?
During one of the pioneer tutorial lessons in Greenspace, we asked the kids to write a thank you letter to their volunteer teachers, Cherry and Edmar. In their letter, as young and innocent as they are, they consistently spelled ukulele as “you-kalele”. We then voted out to name the music group as “You-kalele kids Zambales”.
How we started?
You-kalele Kids Zambales is a product of ukulele tutorial programs facilitated by Ukulele Underground Philippines at Greenspace Liwa last July 29,2017.
The tutorial program sparked the interest of the kids, that 3 weeks later some of the parents approached us, asking where they can buy ukulele units because her daughter keeps crying because she wanted to practice and learn more. The parents took the chance and asked if we can possibly continue to teach kids every weekend here at Greenspace.
The request for a regular ukulele tutorial lesson here is a big challenge for us. Our main concern is “sustainability”. How can we sustain a regular lesson without a budget for the honorarium of ukulele music teacher, with limited ukulele instrument? Through the months of a continuous learning experience, we were able to ask help from ma’am Anna Rizza Sapungan, (one of the moms of the kids) to teach the kids after class as volunteer stint. Her dedication to teach and motivate the kids is one of our driving force to nurture the potential of the kids.
To all our friends, donors and benefactors, we are grateful for all the support that we receive from all of you. All the funds that we collected are being saved for the needs of the kids including instrument and costume improvement of the group for a better music performance of the You-kalele Kids Zambales.
